The China Kitchen is a family-owned restaurant, serving authentic Chinese cuisine since April 2001. We started out in a small location on Hereford St where our Pan-Fried Dumplings quickly became our signature dish. After the devastating earthquakes in February 2011, we were forced to shut down entirely. Through eight months of awaiting the outcome of our future, we were blessed to find a great new location on Main North Rd. We were able to build a new vision for our unique dining experience and took the opportunity to refresh our menu, keeping the old favourites and adding in what would become new favourite dishes.

November 2019 was a time that tested us again when the building next door caught on fire due to fireworks on Guy Fawkes Night. The damage carried over into our restaurant and overnight we lost our restaurant, our livelihood and had to let go of our staff. We fought to keep our restaurant and after 13 long months we were once again blessed with finding a wonderful new location just a few doors down the road. Even through these setbacks, each time we have come back bigger and better. These experiences have taught us patience, resilience and hope.

This current restaurant is a culmination of many years of hard work, and we are so happy and grateful to be able to serve Christchurch once again with our version of authentic Chinese cuisine.
