The China Kitchen first opened on Hereford Street in April 2001 with our dumplings quickly becoming our signature dish. We enjoyed 10 fantastic years in the CBD serving businesses, locals and tourists alike before the February 2011 earthquakes forced us to close entirely. After eight months of awaiting the fate of our restaurant, we were blessed to find a great new location on Main North Rd.

November 2019 was a time that tested us again when the building next door caught on fire due to fireworks on Guy Fawkes Night. The damage carried over into our restaurant. We fought to keep our restaurant and after 13 long months we were once again blessed with finding a wonderful new location just a few doors down the road.

We re-opened with a larger space and a stronger passion to serve delicious food to our customers. These experiences have taught us patience, resilience and hope. This new restaurant is a culmination of many years of hard work, and we are so happy and grateful to be able to serve Christchurch once again with our version of authentic Chinese cuisine.

We are committed to offering a fresh, healthy alternative to Chinese cuisine, and that is why we only use canola oil in our cooking and no added MSG to any of our food. Come in and enjoy a meal with us.
